We love board games in our house. We’re always looking for fun new games to add to our collection, and everyone in the family is a huge fan of game night. Our younger son is about to be four years old, and he’s reaching an age where he’s really pumped about participating in game night. But, of course, there’s a pretty limited selection that he can actually keep up with!

We’ve been working on gathering a few different games for him so that when we have a family game night, he can play along. The most important criteria? It has to be not too terribly painful for us to play, too!

So, here’s a list of my top games that your four-year-old can play along with.

15 Board Games for 4 Year Olds

  1. First Orchard – We’ve been playing this game since Jackson was two years old. It’s always a winner in our house, and I love that it’s quick and easy. It’s a great game for practicing colors and counting, and I love that it’s a cooperative game. I also love that it can be played with just one player!
  2. Here Fishy, Fishy – This game only takes about 5-10 minutes to play – it’s great for hand-eye coordination, taking turns, and practicing colors.
  3. Zingo – It’s Bingo, but for smaller kids. Always a blast, requires minimal effort on your part, is great for kids of all ages!
  4. Animal Upon Animal – This adorable stacking game is a really fun game that you’ll enjoy just as much as the kids. You’re racing to stack all of your animals before anyone else, and trying to make sure the tower doesn’t fall over. It’s fun for everyone and gets really exciting as the tower gets taller!
  5. Found It – This game is perfect for a rainy day. Or even a day when it’s just too hot to play outside. It’s an indoor scavenger hunt where kids race to find things around the house (for example, something with a pattern, or something smaller than your palm). The first to find 7 items is the winner!
  6. Baby Dinosaur Rescue – In this simple no-reading-required game, you’re working together to try and rescue dinosaurs from an island before lava from a volcano reaches them. It’s a great way to practice turn taking, working together, and a whole host of other skills.
  7. Pretty Pretty Princess – It’s a classic but I think it’s definitely one that gets forgotten a lot. This was my favorite game when I was little, and I honestly never got tired of it. I still have a blast playing! I have two boys but literally everyone wants to be a pretty pretty princess. It’s a win all around, every time.
  8. Sequence for Kids – My 8 year old loves to play the regular version of Sequence, so I’m planning on grabbing this one for our younger son for his birthday! Sequence is a classic and I always love being able to introduce the kids to junior versions of our favorite games.
  9. Paw Patrol Pop Up Game– I’ve also got this one in my cart for Grant’s birthday! Who doesn’t love Paw Patrol? This is basically a really simplified version of Trouble, and it looks really cute.
  10. The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel Game – In this game, you spin the spinner and use some little tweezers to pick an acorn to place on your log. It’s great for color matching, fine motor skills, and turn taking. We played this a lot when Jackson was younger and it was always a win!
  11. The Ladybug Game – This adorable game was invented by a first grader, which means your little ones are almost guaranteed to love it. It’s a great first board game for little ones.
  12. Pete the Cat the Missing Cupcakes Game – In this game, you work together to find a missing cupcake. Players will sing songs, act out physical activities, and share favorites during the game. It’s really interactive and so cute!
  13. Hoot Owl Hoot Game – This is another one Jackson loved as a toddler! It has different levels of play which means your older kids can continue to have fun with it and play with the younger ones. It’s a cooperative game that really encourages teamwork, which is always great!
  14. Little Red Riding Hood – This is an adorable puzzle game that your kid can work on by themselves (always a win). It includes 48 different challenges, which means they’ll be able to play it a ton before it gets old. It includes 4 different skill levels, too, so it’ll be great for all ages.
  15. Yeti in my Spaghetti– This is similar to Don’t Break The Ice – you remove noodles from a bowl and try not to let the Yeti fall in. It’s hilarious and adorable, and your kids are guaranteed to adore it.

Of course, you’ve also got the classics. There are some games that have been around for forever that just about every four year old will love. Here’s a quick list of classic games that are guaranteed to be a hit:
